Senator Tom Harkin secures over $250,000 for Iowa's Homeless Veterans

Senator Tom Harkin (D-IA) announced today that three Iowa public housing agencies have been awarded $259,808 to support veterans’ housing needs. The Des Moines, Sioux City and Council Bluffs housing authorities will partner with eligible Veterans Administration (VA) medical facilities, which will receive grants from this award.

Des Moines Municipal Housing Agency will recieve $118,797 to provide rental assistance to homeless veterans, with Sioux City Housing Authority and the Municipal Housing Agency of Council Bluffs receiving  $52,652 and $88,359 respectively.

These funds will be provided through the U.S. Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing program. Senator Tom Harkin is a senior member of the Senate Appropriations committee.
