Monday, Senator Robert Byrd died at 3 am after his health failed over the last few days and he became seriously ill; he was 92. Byrd, democrat from West Virginia was hospitalized a few days ago for heat exhaustion and dehydration, but Sunday his condition was announced as seriously ill. Byrd was a member of Congress for a record breaking 57 years.
Sunday, Byrd’s office reported that other conditions developed over the past few days.
"However, upon further examination by his doctors, other conditions have developed which has resulted in his condition being described as 'serious,' " the statement read.
Joe Manchin, West Virginia Governor said Sunday that they "are thinking about and praying for Sen. Byrd and his family."
"We are truly hopeful that he gets well soon because West Virginians need his leadership in Washington," the statement said. "Sen. Byrd is a true champion for our state."
With 57 years of service, Byrd was the longest-serving member of Congress, according to CNN.
