Senator Harry Reid in hot seat once again as he attempted to link an accident in Northern Nevada to the sequester which cut 2.3% off the ever expanding federal budget. Monday at the Hawthorne Army Depot 8 members of our military family died along with 8 injured when a 60mm mortar exploded unexpectedly as they trained.
Jim Miklaszewski correspondent for NBC news reported that Marine Corps officials took serious issue with Reid’s implication that the explosion was a result of sequester cuts, Top ranking officers have releasing statements stipulating regardless of the sequestration members who are in the military will continue to receive the proper training for the job.
Military personal have ordered all use of the 60mm mortars until the investigation has concluded into the cause. The mortar has been a staple item for military personal since 1978. The are placed in a firing tube held up with a bi-pole and a base plate. The mortars will travel up to 3400 feet before exploding depending on the type of fuse used in battle.
Harry Reid often uses political posturing when he feels the public will see his opposition as terrible, out of touch, granny killing nuts. During the last presidential campaign "Dirty Harry made the accusation on the senate floor that Mitt Romney didn't pay taxes for 10 years. This of course was not true but Harry never apologized for his statement.
The majority leader also made this statement " our system of government is a voluntary tax system." Now if any one out there decides not to pay their taxes because of this statement be ready to go to jail because the IRS will throw you in jail if you refuse to pay taxes, just as Irwin Schiff ended up there for not paying taxes because they were voluntary.
Despicable was one word hear to describe Senator Reid's use of this tragedy for political gain. There are calls out there for a full apology to the families along with all military personal for his remarks. We will see in the next few days if Mr. Reid recants his statement.
