Senator Feinstein's Assault Weapons Ban up for Debate this week

Democrat's continue to pass various forms of gun control as evidenced by what has recently happened in Colorado and New York states. At the Federal Level it's no secret that the hyperbole and volume will get cranked up even more as the Obama Administration works to tout and reiterate successes on Gun Control like that which was recently passed in New York and Colorado.

The committee recessed until Tuesday, March 12, without completing its work on gun legislation and a variety of nominations. Last week, the committee held a hearing on the proposed "Assault Weapons Ban of 2013."

As reported in the Washington Times, "the legislation combines a measure introduced earlier in the session by Mr. Leahy and Mr. Durbin with a separate measure introduced by Ms. Gillibrand and Mr. Kirk that would punish the original seller in such an illicit transaction, or someone who 'knowingly' facilitates straw purchasing."

The bill would toughen the penalties for those who purchase a gun illegally for others to up to 15 years and make gun trafficking a felony. It has attracted the most bipartisan support so far of four measures headed for the committee.

Despite the fact that there won't be enough votes in the House to pass a National Assault Weapons Ban, that doesn't seem to be an issue for Sen. Feinstein. In fact it has been said that in attempt to capitalize on a good crisis to advance their anti-gun agenda's that there could be a very stiff penalty and price to be paid for their actions. Mark Gogan in Politics article titled; "Dianne Feinstein Assault Weapons Ban is Political Suicide For Democrats".

Instead of making Republicans stand up and oppose universal background checks or publically defend the need for 30-round magazines, Democrats have given the GOP the opportunity to defend the 2nd Amendment. This will result in an Assault Weapons Ban that is dead on arrival in Congress and weaken the opportunity for much-needed reforms in the wake of these tragedies. Should the 113th Congress fail to secure meaningful gun control reform, you can lay the blame squarely on those Democrats who advocated re-introducing an assault weapons ban rather than going after simple reforms that have near universal support.

Proof that there is strong dissent and disagreement amongst the Liberal Democrats can been seen in the article, "Assault Weapons Ban Likely to Die So that Broader Gun Policy Legislation Can Live".

The ban will get a vote. But the purpose of that vote will be in part to facilitate its demise. The expectation is that there won't be 60 members of the upper chamber to support the bill's inclusion in the final legislative language.

Unfortunately, for Sen. Dianne Feinstein her proposed legislation lacks the votes on the Democratic side of the isle to pass. "Assault Weapons Ban Lacks Democratic Votes to Pass Senate".

Senator Grassley who has been on the other side of the gun issue in regards to investigation the illegal guns that our own government sent to Mexico in the Fast & Furious Gun Walking Scandal where 2 US Federal Agents are known to have died as a direct result of walked guns has publicly stated that "Senate won’t approve ‘assault weapon’ ban".

Analysts have said a ban on such weapons would be tough to accomplish in a divided Congress. But proposals to expand background checks, stem gun trafficking and increase school security also are on the table. Expanded background checks enjoy wide public support, according to polls.

When asked about the proposals on his weekly conference call, Grassley dismissed only the bill to ban assault-style weapons.

“The only one I can tell you with certainty probably won’t become law is the ban on certain guns,” he said.

Despite the fact that an all out Assault Weapons Ban is going to be an uphill battle that won't stop Senate and House Democrats from their all out ASSAULT on the 2nd Amendment rights of law abiding citizens across the country. They too want the President to have at least something he can hang his hat on.

They will NOT let a good crisis go to waste to advance their agenda against law abiding gun owners.
