Rafael, the father of Senator Cruz, spoke at the Restoring Christian Values Brunch last Friday and Saturday in Colorado. Hosted by Colorado Family Institute, CitizenLink and Revive 1787, the brunches focused on the need for pastors to be engaged in the political arena.
With about 100 people and 25 pastors meeting in the gym of Crossroads Church in Thornton, the meeting lasted most of Friday morning. Saturday, the brunch was at the Church for All Nations in Colorado Springs.
Bishop Brannon, of Living Word Ministries International, hosted the brunch with several presentations by other ministries. Pastor Cruz was the keynote speaker with a one hour motivational talk, Why Pastors Need to be Involved in the Political Arena.
With an emphasis on an amorphous "Christian America," pastor Cruz zealously called for pastors to take politics more seriously, calling them to be watchmen on the cultural towers of America. He challenged the legitimacy of the IRS 501c3 status of churches in light of the First Amendment. He lamented the cowardly acts of too many pastors staying silent on important issues.
He ended the talk with a public vow, in which each member was to recite the ending pledge of the Declaration of Independence, adding "to do all we can to restore liberty in this country, and to establish the kingdom of God for His glory, so help me God."
