In a message emailed to his constituents mid-week, Michigan Senator Carl Levin continues to use the class warfare stance of the Democrat Party for the 2012 election. Although Levin is not up for reelection, the devisive comment came in his message about joining Sen. Kent Conrad of North Dakota in introducing the Cut Unjustified Tax (CUT) Loopholes Act. The bill was designed to fund the extension of the reduced Social Security deduction extension, which passed yesterday.
In the email Levin says the bill “would reduce the deficit by $155 billion by closing tax loopholes that favor wealthy individuals and corporations.”
Levin’s message of closing tax loopholes would have near universal support by all voters disgusted by the way some companies and individuals “escape” taxes or reduce their tax burdens. By injecting “wealthy” instead of “some” Levin seeks to garner support from the Occupy Wall Street movement and paint success achieved in the form of accumulated wealth as an American evil.
Interestingly Levin took the higher road in the official press release of the same topic by leaving out the comment about rich people. However they were in his floor speech.
