The Senate managed to get a continuing resolution, that happens to include funding for Obamacare, passed on Friday, tossing the hot potato back into the hands of the House of Representatives.
The House will have to hammer out some sort of working plan to the budget bill, and aides say that if this does come to pass, it will be Sunday at the earliest before it will be voted on.
Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, along with 18 of his Republican cronies cast the dissenting votes today as the budget bill passed with a tally of 79-19. With the clock ticking toward a government shutdown only three days away, it is going to come down to the wire.
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid saying the GOP is infected with a small but vocal "destructive faction," has urged the House to go ahead and pass the so-called "clean CR" to avert the shutdown.
Because of the theatrics of Senator Cruz earlier this week, he is finding himself out-of-favor with many members of his party. In what amounted to a wasted 21 hours of everyone's time, he tried to press the House Republicans to stand firm against Obamacare and called on his colleagues in the Senate to unite in opposition, too.
With the odds standing at 50-50 for or against a government shutdown, most people are saying that regardless of what happens, it will be the fault of the Republicans, but we all knew that, anyway.
