On Wednesday, Sen. Rand Paul, Matt Kibbe of FreedomWorks, and lead counsel Ken Cuccinelli made their official announcement of a class action lawsuit against President Obama, James Clapper, Keith Alexander, and James Comey over violations to the 4th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution over the NSA citizen spying scandal.

Sen. Paul and Kibbe made their announcement to the media at 11 a.m. on the steps of the U.S. District Court in Washington, DC.

The other three defendants consist of James Clapper, the current Director of National Intelligence.

Keith Brian Alexander is a four-star general in the United States Army who currently serves as Director of the National Security Agency, Chief of the Central Security Service and Commander of the United States Cyber Command, and James Brien Comey, Jr., the current director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Matt Kibbe of FreedomWorks said, “We believe that Fourth Amendment protection from warrant-less searches and seizures by government applies to every American citizen. The NSA spying program is the largest warrant-less gathering of citizen’s private information in American history. It’s time to put this issue before the courts.”

The complaint filed can be read here.

On Tuesday, the Guardian revealed the five surveillance myths stalling NSA reforms.

Michelle Richardson of the Guardian said, “Within minutes after the Guardian published that first leak on the NSA’s activities, pro-surveillance forces starting making bold claims about how necessary broad spying is to our very security. And almost every justification for indiscriminate spying on Americans and people abroad has been methodically refuted ever since.”

“It turns out that assertions made by the [Obama] administration, members of Congress and security commentators were little more than myths.”
