Just two weeks after having a stroke, Illinois Sen. Mark Kirk of the United States Congress has been transferred from Northwestern Memorial Hospital where he had surgeries in the past two weeks to a rehabilitation center.
The Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago is preparing a rehabilitation program for Sen. Kirk. It has been said by doctors that Kirk’s good health and degree of fitness for a 52-year-old man, prior to the stroke, are definitely a plus to Kirk’s recovery success.
This past week, Kirk’s Northwestern Memorial Hospital neurosurgeon reported that the senator’s brain swelling had subsided which allowed him to reattach the portion of Kirk’s skull which was removed to allow room for the brain swell.
While doctors’ expect Kirk to have negative physical affects with his left arm and leg, they do not foresee any effect impact on his mental abilities.
Kirk suffered a stroke on January 28, 2012.
