Semi-finals set in the 99th Kansas City Match Play Championship

Match play continued on Saturday May 10 at Swope Memorial Golf Course, with the round of 32 and round of 16 in the 99th Kansas City Match Play Championship sponsored by the Kansas City Golf Association. Two rounds, the semi-final and final, are scheduled for Sunday to determine the champion.

In the Round of 16 matches, Hank Simpson defeated Chase Hanna in 19 holes and Russell Holzbaur knocked out Doug Albers 2 up. The second match to go to extra holes ended in 21 holes with Phil Bartimus defeating Tom Leonard. Thomas Wuennenberg defeated Craig Broswick 3 and 2, while Cy Moritz took an 8 and 6 victory over Dave Cunningham. Kyle Hummer defeated Derek Nicholson 1 up and Michael Greene defeated Don Walsworth 2 and 1. In the Round of 16 match, Josh Weems won over Nick Arman 3 and 2.

The quarterfinals were held on Saturday afternoon with Hank Simpson making a birdie to Russell Holzbaur par on the 19th hole. Phil Bartimus at 2 up sent Thomas Wuennenberg from the competition and Cy Moritz defeated Kyle Hummer 2 and 1. Ending their quarterfinal match at 2 and 1 Josh Weems defeated Michael Greene.

Sunday’s competition begins with the semi-final matches. Simpson takes on Bartimus at 7:30 and Moritz goes head to head with Weems at 7:40. The final match will begin at the end of the play in the semi-finals with the award presentation following the final round.
