Since early April rumors have been circulating about a Windows Phone device that will be focused on the art of taking selfies, and while not much was known about the device at the time, a new report claims that the new Phone which has been dubbed 'Superman' by Nokia will be available by the end of the year. On July 29 WMpoweruser reported that the new Windows Phone 8.1 device will in fact be the successor to the popular Nokia Lumia 720.
The successor to the Lumia 720 has only been known as project 'Superman' up until this point, but now the device is known internally as the RM-983, RM-984, and the RM-985. This of course means that there will be at least three versions of the new device, one for AT&T, one for Verizon, and another for that will be labelled for a global roll-out.
The phone that has the code-name of 'Superman', will reportedly be a mid-range device with a 5-megapixel front facing camera. The high quality front facing shooter will be perfect for those that like to take the best possible selfie before plastering their likeness all over Facebook, and Instagram.
The Windows Phone 8.1 based device will sport either a 5-inch or a 4.7-inch 720p display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 Quad-Core processor, 1GB of RAM, and a Carl Zeiss powered 8-megapixel rear facing camera. The phone will also be shipped with the GDR-1 update that will bring several new features to an already impressive Windows Phone 8.1 package.
The term 'selfie' has of course exploded over the last few years with the advent of the smartphone. Nokia have become one of the best producers of quality cameras in mobile devices, so it makes sense that they would want to use all of their technology and know-how to create a phone that is centered on the increasingly popular art form. Both the front facing, and rear facing camera modules will apparently be treated to the same technology that has made Nokia phones industry leaders when it comes to low-light photography.
The project Superman phone does not have a release date as of yet, but the device is expected to be released world-wide by the end of 2014. There is no doubt that hipsters, and selfie-lovers around the globe are eagerly awaiting this new Nokia device.
