Selena Gomez was spotted wearing a bindi again on Thursday, Jan. 23. The singer and actress joined the ranks of Katy Perry and Gwen Stefani by wearing the South Asian decoration as an accessory, according to MTV.com.
Gomez was buying cigarettes at a gas station in Tarzana, CA. She wore a nude bodysuit underneath a black wrap. She also wore black skinny jeans with silver zippers.
Gomez was seen rocking a shorter hairdo this time around. She shopped off her luscious locks. She also hid her face under a dark pair of sunglasses.
The "Come & Get It" singer was all smiles. Maybe because her ex Justin Bieber got into a little bit of trouble with the police in Miami, FL.
It's not the cigarettes, her clothes or her smile that's causing controversy; it's what she wore on her head. She was seen wearing a bindi on her forehead yet again.
Gomez previously wore a bindi at the 2013 MTV Movie Awards and the 2013 Billboard Music Awards. She was also seen with it when she performed on "Ellen" and "Dancing With the Stars."
Gomez told a New York radio station why she chose to wear it:
"I think the song has that Hindu, tribal feel and I wanted to translate that. I've been learning about my chakra and bindis and the culture -- it's beautiful."
Gomez was ask to apologize back in April for wearing the bindi. Rajan Zed, statesperson for the Universal Society of Hinduism explained it well:
"The Bindi on the forehead is an ancient tradition in Hinduism and has religious significance. It is also sometimes referred to as the third eye and the flame, and it is an auspicious religious and spiritual symbol… It is not meant to be thrown around loosely for seductive effects or as a fashion accessory aiming at mercantile greed. Selena should apologise and then she should get acquainted with the basics of world religions."
Selena Gomez has yet to apologize. Either she isn't aware or she simply doesn't care. Critics feel that someone on her management team needs to warn her about her cultural appropriation.
