Selena Gomez has diverted attention away from her personal life by going overseas on a charity mission. She says she was moved and inspired by her recent trip to Nepal on behalf of UNICEF, as reported by US Weekly on May 30, 2014. Gomez has been a spokesperson for UNICEF since 2008 and an UNICEF ambassador since 2009. She has also traveled to Chile and Ghana for the charity.
During her visit to Nepal, Gomez got together with kids at the Satbariya Rapti Secondary School, where she took part in performing traditional dances and folk songs with them. She also met with UNICEF-supported female community health volunteers in Gangaparaspur Village who told her about their efforts to fight illness among children and their mothers. The women in Nepal discussed cases of conflict, domestic violence, and child abuse in Hapur Village. The young Nepalese put on a skit for her about the importance of sanitation in Dokrena/Khaira Village.
Gomez visited Nepal to bring attention to kids in need within the country and internationally reports UNICEF. She says her trip to Nepal was very powerful. She felt the trip was devastating and heartbreaking, while also being extremely inspiring. She commented that the kids who are living in extreme poverty can feel some sort of hope and promise for a brighter future with the help of the efforts of UNICEF.
Gomez wants to convey to kids across the world that it's worth believing in their dreams and pursuing them. She also has been doing a really great job advocating for the world’s most vulnerable kids on behalf of UNICEF.
