Selena Gomez graces the cover of the new issue of Seventeen magazine. And according to In Touch Weekly on Jan. 18, the starlet opens up about her insecurities and 2013 breakup with Justin Bieber.

In the interview, Gomez admits she used the pain she experienced during her split from Bieber and channeled it into her music.

"I questioned the way I looked, acted, sang, and wrote. I started becoming very stale with my music, and I realized that I was doing things for other people,” said Gomez.

"I turned 20, went through a really bad breakup, and realized I needed to pick up everything. I was tired of feeling defeated. All this time, I was so pissed trying to figure out why I felt like such an underdog, and I finally realized I just wasn't ready. I'm glad it's taken me this long to get where I am because now I am ready for it," she added.

Meanwhile, speculation that Gomez and Bieber have reconciled started recently when the two were seen together near Bieber’s Calabasas home. Bieber fueled more rumors when he posted a picture of the two cozied up on Instagram.

The 21-year-old poses for three different covers for the new issue of the glossy. Ironically, Gomez sports a T-shirt for all three shots with words of inspiration such as “brave,” “confident,” and “dream” on them.
