Selena Gomez may have shocked some of her fans when she announced that she would be doing the movie, “Spring Breakers,” alongside Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Benson and Rachel Korine. At the time she accepted the project, she was dating Justin Bieber and the two were bragging about how they were the most innocent couple, as they had promised one another to hold the sex life at a distance until they were old enough to deal with the consequences. And yet, “Spring Breakers” is about four college girls who go to jail after robbing a restaurant, only to get into more legal trouble when they are bailed out by a drug dealer. However, according to a new Guardian report released on April 4, Selena Gomez didn’t pick out this role on her own.
Her mother supposedly had a hand in helping her pick out this role. Maybe her mother wanted her daughter to have an edgier look in the industry, as Selena doesn’t come across as an edgy actress with “Wizards of Waverly Place” on her resume and a boyfriend at the time who refused to sing about adult problems. When she recently did an interview about the movie, she dished that her mother actually connected more with the script that she did. "Oddly enough, it was my mom's idea!" Selena shared. "She's a huge Harmony fan. She got the script and said it was totally what Harmony's vision was, summed it all up. So we watched all of his old movies and, I gotta say, I was a little hesitant at first. But I went to Nashville and met Harmony and I instantly became comfortable with him."
Since filming the movie, Selena has broken up with her boyfriend Justin and he now seems to be anything but the innocent singer that he once was proud to be. Do you think this movie may have changed Selena from sweet and innocent to edgy, and perhaps even a sex symbol for some?
