Selena Gomez reveals racy ‘Spring Breakers’ role was her mom’s idea

Selena Gomez may have returned to her Disney roots for last week’s “Wizards of Waverly Place” reunion, “The Wizards Return” Alex Vs. Alex,” but she’s no Disney princess on the big screen. On March 17, E! News reported that the 20-year old superstar’s mother was behind her role in the racy flick, “Spring Breakers.”

While Gomez said she “wasn’t scared” of leaving behind her wholesome Disney image, she told E! that her mom helped push her into the racy role which has her teamed up with fellow Disney alum Vanessa Hudgens and actors Ashley Benson and James Franco for some bikini-clad hijinks.

"She loves this kind of vibe," Selena said of her supportive mom. "She's super into indie movies and indie directors … I think it was more of her pushing me and being like, you should go for it."

According to the Hollywood Reporter, at the film’s L.A. premiere Selena Gomez dished, “My mom was a huge Harmony [Korine] fan, so when she got the script, she was absolutely beyond herself. She was so excited.”

Selena also revealed that she’s a little more nervous about the movie’s US. Debut, as opposed to previous screenings at the Venice Film Festival and the Toronto International Film Festival.

“It’s actually scarier for me to do it here,” she said. “We were in Europe, and they are a little bit more liberal over there. They don’t care if they see boobs.”

Over the weekend, Gomez posted a pic of her premiere night red gown by Reem Acra.

“Spring Breakers” will be released nationwide on March 22.
