Now that her Disney series, “Wizards of Waverly Place” has ended its 4- season run, pop princess Selena Gomez is ready to take on a new role. Or two.
According to Deadline, the popular star’s July Moon production company has optioned the YA novel“The Sky Is Everywhere.” The book was written by Jandy Nelson and was named one of YALSA's 2011 Best Fiction for Young Adults.
Selena and July Moon will turn the novel into a big screen flick, with the Disney star producing and starring as a band geek whose life gets turned upside down when her older sister dies.
Selena is also set to star in the Harmony Korine film, “Spring Breakers” alongside another former Disney star, Vanessa Hudgens. (Emma Roberts and James Franco also star.) Selena called the movie “very dark and very different.” You can see her talking about “Spring Breakers” here.
Sounds like our favorite wizard is really trying to break out of her Disney mold!
Selena’s previous movies include the more tween-friendly fare, “Monte Carlo” and “Ramona and Beezus.”
Selena Gomez visited the Philadelphia area last August when she stopped by during her “We Own the Night Tour.” With her now-busy movie making schedule, will she have the time to hit Philly again this year?
Stay tuned!
