Selena Gomez and Demi Lovato became best friends at a very young age, but their friendship was almost ruined after a period of tension between them, E! Online reported on Jan. 23.

According the report, Selena and Demi are closer than ever now, but that wasn’t always the case.

Selena Gomez says that when Demi Lovato was struggling with an eating disorder and drug addiction she didn’t know how to handle it.

“I was so young and it was confusing. I processed it saying, 'OK, I don't understand what she's going through so I'm just going to do this.' I don't think it was fair, and I'm so happy that I have her back in my life now,” Gomez said.

Selena praises Demi for seeking help and being so public about her issues in hopes of helping others. However, Gomez’s on again, off again boyfriend, Justin Bieber, is also facing the same issues. Although Justin hasn’t sought treatment, reports reveal that those closest to him are urging him to enter rehab.

If Justin does chose to seek treatment in rehab, Selena will likely be better equip to handle it after Demi’s situation.
