This year, Selena Gomez, David Archuleta and Salma Hayek will be among the honorees at the 2009 ALMA Awards, which will be hosted by Eva Longoria Parker and George Lopez.
According to an article by the Children's Entertainment Examiner, the National Council of La Raza (NCLR) announced in a press conference that this year, the awards show will be "presenting more Latino talent in more categories than ever before."
Scheduled to be taped on Thursday, September 17th at the Royce Hall Auditorium at UCLA, the 2009 ALMA Awards will "celebrate our Latino heritage and its positive impact on American entertainment and culture," as stated in the event's official website.
Janet Murguía, NCLR President and CEO, said at the press conference, “If you like the ALMA Awards, you will love this year’s show because we are bringing you more of what you love most, unique musical pairings and the best Latino entertainment,” adding, “the ALMA Awards is one of the few opportunities in primetime to spotlight the Latino presence in entertainment, and we want to celebrate the impact Latinos had last year not only in film and television, but also in music and sports television.”
Selena Gomez is featured in the Television Comedy Actress category for her work in Disney Channel's Wizards of Waverly Place, while David Archuleta is an honoree in the Music category. Additionally, Archuleta is the Male Rising Star and will perform at the event. Gomez, on her part, will present an award.
Other honorees include Salma Hayek (up in two categories, she will also receive the Anthony Quinn Award for Industry Excellence), hosts Eva Longoria Parker and George Lopez, and the Black Eyed Peas.
Luis Fonsi, Nelly Furtado, Sean Kingston and Pitbull will also perform, and Adam Rodriguez, Amaury Nolasco, Benjamin Bratt, Dania Ramirez, Enrique Murciano, Eva La Rue, James Roday, Joanna Garcia, Kat VonD, Nadine Velazquez, Roselyn Sanchez, Efren Ramirez, Sofia Vergara, Michelle Rodriguez, Oscar Nunez and Rey Mysterio will appear as presenters.
The winner of the Fashion Icon Award will be decided by online voting.
To find out which honoree gets the award for Special Achievement in each category, watch the 2009 ALMA Awards on Friday, September 18th at 8pm EST on ABC.

David Archuleta is so deserving of the "Male Rising Star" award. He has worked nonstop since he came out of AI. He has worked so hard on his
Christmas album which rumor has it that there will be a Spanish song included.David has always been so proud of his Hispanic roots. He speaks highly of his "Abuelita".Congrats!! David I'll be watching you on ABC on Sept 18th!!!

David is unbelievably awesome! Can't wait to see him receive this award!
David has been one busy young man since American Idol ended last year. Good to know others are recognizing his amazing talent. I will be watching September 18th to see the VOICE on TV again. It's been entirely too long! :-w
So many of my favorites will be there, can't wait! Especially excited about David Archuleta, hope he sings something in Spanish and gets to give a speech. But pls keep it simple, David, and don't ramble too much.
