Selena Gomez changes her tune with new album featuring EDM

Selena Gomez made headlines most recently over her break-up with Justin Bieber, but the singer is hoping to put more focus on her music now. With the release of her latest album scheduled for March of this year, the newly-single artist is experimenting with a different type of sound: Electronic Dance Music.

Commonly referred to as EDM, the genre features dance beats and is most often played in nightclubs. In an interview with MTV, Gomez admitted she was trying new things musically and that she had been influenced by young EDM talent Skrillex, who wrote the score of her recent movie Spring Breakers.

“I want to work with different types of music,” Gomez told MTV News. In a recent interview with Hollywood Life, Gomez admitted that Skrillex was “a big inspiration,” though he did not actually collaborate with her on the album.

While Gomez already experienced great success with her well-received 2011 album When the Sun Goes Down, the EDM flavor she’s bringing to her new tracks may well be a sign that the young singer is growing up and finding her sound. As she told Hollywood Life, “By the time it comes out, I’ll almost be 21, so… I want it to be older.”

Gomez announced in November of last year that her new record would be available in March, but no official release date has been set.
