Selena Gomez announced Thursday that she's canceling her upcoming tour in Australia, angering her fans down under, and sparking rumors about what's behind the bold decision. Selena, 21, indicated in her statement on Dec. 19 that she basically needs some "me" time, but others are wondering if there's more to the story. Remember Gomez suffered a mini-meltdown just weeks ago while performing at the Jingle Ball.
A source explained to Us Weekly that Selena has been working non-stop for six years straight, and wants to take some much-needed rest in order to stay healthy.
The source added that Gomez hated to disappoint her fans, and that it was a difficult decision to cancel the Australian leg of the tour, but she really needs to focus on herself right now.
"My fans are so important to me and I would never want to disappoint them," Gomez wrote in a statement, adding, "But it has become clear to me and those close to me that after many years of putting my work first, I need to spend some time on myself in order to be the best person I can be".
Aussie teens across the country took to social media to vent their grief and anger after Selena Gomez called of her first Australian tour to spend some time on herself.
Gomez's down under tour was set to kick off in February 2014 in Perth, before heading off to all the state capitals.
Critics couldn't help but take notice that the tour cancellation announcement comes just a couple of weeks after her Dec. 6, NYC Jingle Ball performance that she'd probably like to forget about.
While performing her hit song "Come & Get It", the former Disney star suffered a series of audio malfunctions that seemed to make it clear she was using a backing vocal track.
But unfortunately for the pop star, her malfunctioning mic cut back in just long enough to broadcast her frustrated F-bomb. Gomez eked out one more song, after promising two, and abruptly left the stage.
Selena's statement finished with her writing to her fans that she sincerely apologizes and hopes, "you guys know how much each and every one of you mean to me".
But that hopeful plea seems to have fallen on some deaf ears today, as angry fans vented on social media. "...actually so f**king pissed....What a b*tch selena thanks", itslindavasquez tweeted, according to The Sydney Morning Herald.
Another enraged fan took to Twitter writing to Selena that she loves her to death, but called her out, saying she can't just cancel her tour for no reason because that's "beyond f**ked".
Only time will tell whether there's something more to Selena's tour cancellation. But in any event, at least the young star seems to be trying to fix what's already broken, or avoid a total meltdown.
