"Seinfeld" actor John Pinette, 49, has checked himself into rehab after becoming addicted to prescription pills according to Tuesday, August 27 reports from TMZ.
Where he is undergoing treatment and how long he is expected to stay in the facility and details of what prescription drug addiction he is suffering from were not reported.
Best known for his role on the "Seinfeld" series finale as the "fat guy who got mugged" Pinette reveals that he checked himself into rehab voluntarily after he became addicted to prescription meds.
Pinette was set to perform in Canada next month,but a rep for the venue confirmed John Pinette's postponement due to being hospitalized in rehab.
The rep also stated on says John's behalf that John -- who also had his own Comedy Central special in 2011 -- underwent surgery earlier this year and got hooked to the prescription medication he was taking.
Pinette took to his Twitter account posting a note of gratitude to his fans writing:
"Thanks to everyone for your concern and well wishes.. Want to apologize for having missed shows last weekend, but I hope you understand!"
Details surrounding Pinette's decision to enter rehab were not revealed,thankfully for the stand up comedian he realized he was suffering from an addiction and made the choice to get help before it was too late.
