Segway-ing in Antigua off Silversea Cruises’ Silver Spirit
It took a cruise on Silversea’s Silver Spirit to get me (and my mate, Richard) on one of these personal transport two wheelers in Antiqua of all places.
In case you hadn’t noticed, I’ve been reporting from the Spirit, for the past 12 days during a cruise from Lisbon to Barbados. Today we docked in St. John’s Antigua, the largest British leeward islands. After an ample breakfast, served on our veranda by our butler, Bryan (eggs, bacon, papaya, toast, double espressos) we headed out, not with some trepidation by yours truly, for our first Segway experience, which is one of the excursions offered by Silversea for $109 a person.
It was quite the eye opener, requiring balance and some skill to navigate the electric PT. The Segway staff provided in depth instruction and testing before allowing the 10 passengers to hit the road and beach.
Julia was our leader and she did a fine job making sure we all felt confident before taking us on a tour of this beautiful islands. We stopped for sugar cane and fresh fruit treats, and lots of photo ops along the way. When we finished, we were offered beers or soft drinks and given time to swim in the warm, wonderful, womb-like Caribbean.
It’s all good folks. The cruise is almost over and it’s been one of the best ever. And the Segway shore excursion rocks.
Silversea continues to please passengers’ palates with great food, and our comforts with large suites, lots of amenities and a crew that can’t do enough for its charges—people like Sonny, Rod and Rex who keep us happy at the bars; Racquel who keeps our suite in neat shape, Bryan, the butler who does it right, a fun captain who joins in the fun and games on the pool deck and other staff who keep everyone happy and content (no complaints on this cruise, that we know of anyway).
So I’m off to check out the shops now—a diva does what a diva has to do—we are docked until 11 PM. Probably do room service on our veranda tonight, or maybe just stroll into the Restaurant, after our regular drinks of course at the Bar. Silversea is all about personal choices ,you dine where and when you want and with whom—table for two or maybe more. Up to you.
