1 year, 5 years, 10 years.
Every year can be considered a milestone of sorts. However, from October 3rd-5th, the 100 Black Men of Atlanta are seeing "silver" in the form of the hosting of the 25th annual Atlanta Football Classic. What starts as a friendly game of football between Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU's) has grown into a blend of entertainment along with the support of educational programs.
The centerpiece remains the football game this Saturday, October 5th, at 3:30pm. North Carolina A & T University and South Carolina State University are this year's featured teams that are competing on the gridiron.
Terrance J., a co-host for E News!, is one of the featured television and film stars playing a host role for a number of the events, including the 2nd Annual Party in the Dome (Verizon Level). An alumnus of North Carolina A & T University, he is currently starring in the recently released film Baggage Claim. He and a number of special guests are scheduled to be in attendance for the game-day function.
Some of the featured events start on October 3rd. The Youth Symposium (10am-2pm) and the Collegiate Symposium (5-8pm) at the Morehouse College Leadership Center are among the opening events of the day. For Friday, October 4th, the Head Coaches and Players Press Conference and other social events are among the official events taking place. On game-day, October 5th, the Fan Experience at the HBCU Homecoming Village featuring the Coors Light End Zone (you must be 21 and older to enter the End Zone section), the Parade of Excellence (hosted by Kia Motors-the route starts at Peachtree St and Ralph Magill Blvd), and the College Fair (from 10am-3pm at the GA World Congress Center, Building C) are among the key events taking place.
AT&T, Abbott Laboratories, Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Coke Zero, Coors Light, Delta Air Lines, Georgia Power, The Home Depot, Kia, MARTA, National Guard, McDonalds, Sam’s Club, Toshiba, U.S. Army, U.S.Marines, UPS and Walmart are among the official sponsors for the 2013 edition.
With a series of entertainment and education-based events, the 25th edition of the Atlanta Football Classic provides all with some sound programming and options. Hosted by the 100 Black Men of Atlanta, "seeing silver" seems the way to go today or for the entire weekend.
