Summer 2014 Lincoln Center hosts its Out of Doors festival, which runs from July 20 to August 10. Bill Bragin, Lincoln Center's Director of Public Programming officially announced this event. Nearly 100 free performances will be taking place at Lincoln Center during July and August. A Memorial Concert for Pete and Toshi Seeger will be held on July 20th.
Pete Seeger and his wife, Toshi Ohta Seeger were life partners, musical pioneers and tireless activists for social justice. They died just six months apart from one another: Toshi in July 2013 and Pete in January 2014. Seeger Fest is a five day event that memorializes this epic musical duo.
The Seegers' grandson, Kitama Cahill-Jackson, organized Seeger Fest. Seeger Fest takes place on July 20th, which would have been Pete and Toshi's 71st wedding anniversary; the couple were married in July 20, 1943. Cahill-Jackson will (fittingly) be the host of the Out of Doors Memorial Concert. The concert will feature artists whom the Seegers had a close relationship with.
Some of the line up is as follows: Dar Williams, Michael Moore,Sarah Lee Guthrie and Johnny Irion, Adira and David Amram, Tom Chapin and The Chapin Sisters, Kim and Reggie Moore, as well as some surprise guests. Pete Seeger was a regular performer at Lincoln Center. He last appeared there in 2008.
