Seedtime and Harvest

Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. (2 Corinthians 9:6)

“When the farmer puts seed into the ground, he does not dig it up every day to see how it is doing. He believes that the seed has begun its work.” ~T. L. Osborne

The Ancient rabbis taught that every countryman had 11,000 guardian angels. Joan of Arc claimed that she saw angels weekly sharing, “I saw them with my bodily eyes as clearly as I see you. And when they departed I used to weep and wish that they would take me with them.”

As Richard Webster notes, Carl Jung had an implicit belief in angels and that they were representatives of the “thoughts and intuitions of their Lord.”

An old prayer reads, “May the healing power of Jesus Christ descend upon (name) and may the holy angels encompass him/her.”

William Cowper (1731-1800) wrote the song, “God Moves in Mysterious Ways His Wonders to Perform” after a failed suicide attempt. Having spent months in an insane asylum, he continued with grave depression upon his release. One fog-ridden evening he planned to drown himself in a river. A horse-drawn cab drove him through town and the men became lost on their way to the canal. The driver had given up due to the fog and Cowper exited the cab only to realize he was standing in front of his own house. He believed the driver to have been an angel. Throughout creation, both in the spiritual and material realms, we see that God provides, his unseen hand guiding and protecting us. Jesus himself taught that a sparrow does not fall to the ground that the Father doesn’t take notice, and how much more so does he see the lives of men.

Whether it be thousands of angels commissioned to care for our lives or thousands of blessings we may take for granted in our day to day lives, each of us reaps a harvest from the Father of Lights. Messengers are all around us, seen and unseen, pointing us to see the blessings that come in myriad forms, if we but notice.

Health is a harvest, joy is a harvest, breath is a harvest. If you made it home safely tonight, that is a harvest.

As John MacCormack, owner of Visible Changes and once called the “hottest entrepreneur in America” shared, one day at his lowest point a stranger known as Abe told him, ““Son, do you have any idea how many people came to this country with no money, who couldn’t speak English, and didn’t know anyone, yet fulfilled their dreams? You are already way ahead of most people.” They were words that changed his life, and he realized the harvest he had in his life and snapped out of depression.

We all have untold harvests right before our eyes, sometimes it takes an angel to help us notice, other times it simply takes us being willing to recognize what we have been given.
