Seed Savers Exchange book tour comes to the Bay Area

Are you already planning this year's garden and looking for a little advice or inspiration? There are two great opportunities coming up this weekend to connect with one of America's preeminent seed-saving organizations and learn a little something about choosing and growing heirloom flowers, vegetables and herbs.

On Saturday, January 28, Diane Ott Whealy, co-founder of Seed Savers Exchange, is coming to the Bay Area for a series of book signings, and we're all invited.

10 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
San Francisco Botanical Garden
Presentation and book signing: "How to Design a Beautiful Garden with Heirlooms, Flowers, Vegetables and Herbs."

Diane will share her experience designing and planting the perfect combination of heirloom flowers, vegetables, and herbs. Her lessons can be applied to gardens large or small and will emphasize self-seeding annuals, seed saving, and creating a sustainable as well as edible landscape. Seed Savers Exchange (SSE) is a non-profit organization dedicated to saving and sharing heirloom seeds. Since 1975, its members have been passing on their garden heritage by collecting and distributing thousands of samples of rare garden seeds to other gardeners.

If you'd like to know more about SSE, you might want to check out Gathering: Memoir of a Seed Saver, because it answers the question that gardeners and Seed Savers Exchange members have been asking for over 36 years: “How did all of this get started?”

Written by Seed Savers Exchange Co-founder Diane Ott Whealy, Gathering tells the story of how a small group of passionate gardeners became one of the most active and effective seed saving organizations in the world. Whether you’re a longtime seed saver or a newcomer to the movement, this personal history just might inspire you to start your own garden legacy.
