See Tom Cruise in new 'Oblivion' trailer

On Thursday, Feb. 28 iTunes Movie Trailers released a new trailer for the upcoming science fiction thriller "Oblivion" which takes place in a post-apocalyptic world where humanity has abandoned planet Earth after an alien war. Tom Cruise stars as Jack Harper, a drone technician who flies around the planet fixing robots.

The trailer is just barely two and a half minutes long, but features glimpses of new footage and explains the previous trailers in more detail. The trailer opens by focusing on Harper's humanity, showing the guy playing basketball, reading books and living in the rather serene wilderness instead of a war ravaging planet. Except for the sweeping shots for Harper's ship flying over submarines buried in deserts, monuments surrounded by water, and a sideways Brooklyn Bridge.

Enter Morgan Freeman's character and a whole bunch of humans who have been living underground to avoid evacuation. After Harper is captured by the group, they are forced to work together to avoid detection from the drones who think Harper is a traitor.

The mysterious woman who lands an Earth also gets some more backstory in this trailer, by helping Harper take out the attack drones and robots trying to kill them. Together they discover the truth about the war and the future of humanity with plenty of gun fire, trick flying and suspenseful looks.

"Oblivion" also stars Melissa Leo, Olga Kurylenko, and Andrea Riseborough. The Universal film is directed by Joseph Kosinski and will open in IMAX theaters on April 12.
