See It Here First: 'Green Hornet' trailer finds its way online, is surprisingly awesome (with video)

  Looking pretty dapper there, Rogen.

Well, all along people have been wondering what Michel Gondry's first-ever superhero movie was going to look like, and last night on Jimmy Kimmel Live, we got our first peek.  The trailer for The Green Hornet has now arrived online, so if you missed last night's Kimmel broadcast (and, really, how could you?  You should be ashamed of yourself), we've got the trailer in all its glory below.  Seth Rogen takes on his first full-blown action role as the titular Hornet, joined by his Asian man-servant (but not his ladyboy-- that we're aware of) Kato.  Together, they fall in love with Cameron Diaz and fight the bad guy from Inglourious Basterds in glorious 3D.  Actually, the film looks kind of awesome.  See it for yourselves below, my gentle Examiner readers...

So, The Green Hornet isn't arriving for a looong time (January 14th, 2011, suckers), but that doesn't mean they're not already well into shooting-- if not already finished.  The first ever full-blown action movie to feature Seth Rogen as its lead-- also the first-ever superhero movie from Eternal Sunshine helmer and overall genius Michel Gondry-- had its trailer premiere earlier tonight on Jimmy Kimmel Live, but if you missed it you can see it right here:

Before we get into what I thought, let's go through the whole "Official Plot Synopsis" thing:

By day, Britt Reid (Seth Rogen) is a millionaire publisher and popular media figure, but by night, Reid assumes the identity of fearless crime fighter The Green Hornet and teams with his trusted sidekick, Kato (played by Asian pop star-turned-actor/director Jay Chou), to keep the streets safe for average citizens. Producer Neal H. Moritz spearheads this big-screen adaptation of the popular radio serial, comic book, film, and television series originated by Lone Ranger creators Fran Striker and George W. Trendle. Rogen and frequent writing partner Evan Goldberg provide the screenplay, with visionary Michel Gondry (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind) handling directing duties. Breakout Inglourious Basterds star Christoph Waltz portrays the villain, Chudnofsky. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide

So, I think that looks pretty damn cool.  Like, "just jumped to the top of my 'I Give a Sh-t About This Movie" list, which is a hard list for movies to get on.  Say what you will about Rogen's overexposure last year, but I really dig the guy, and think that-- far more often than not-- he's delivered awesome work (those of you that still aren't showing any love for Observe and Report are really disappointing me).  Plus, Michel Gondry's no slouch in the director's chair.  Is it possible that all those rumors about a troubled production are nonsense?  Looks awesome to me, but what do you guys think?  Sound off below, my precious snowflakes.  By the way, don't go looking at the IMDB for a plot synopsis on this one: they've got the entire script laid out there.  Whoever did that: total d0uche.
