Every year, families delight at the giant colorful balloons in the Macy's Parade in New York. However, you can head somewhere warmer if you want to see genuine balloons without shivering in the winter cold.
For 12 years now, Universal Studios Florida has hosted its own Macy's Parade, complete with some of the balloons that are used in New York, for its holiday celebration. Click the slideshow accompanying this article to see some scenes from the parade, which will run at the park through January 4.
Like its Empire State counterpart, the Sunshine State version has huge balloons with handlers maneuvering them along the parade route. It also has performers who sing, dance, roller blade, stilt walk, and interact with the audience. The kids might even get a peppermint if they're on the front lines.
This year's new balloon is a giant purple hippopotamus that appeared in New York this year before heading to its new home. It's actually based on Happy the Hippo, a classic balloon from the 1940s. There are also stars, toy soldiers, a polar bear, an elf, a snowman, and much more.
