The upcoming supernatural romance drama Beautiful Creatures won't open in theaters until February, but Yahoo! Movies has released a new clip from the film on Tuesday, Jan. 22 which shows Emmy Rossum's character Ridley meeting her sister's young love for the first time. The film is based on the novel of the same name by Richard LaGravenese and is expected to open in theaters on February 14, 2013. Check out the clip here.
The short clip is just one minute long, but appears to be a pivotal moment in the film. Ridley Duchannes (Rossum) gets out of a red car at the local high school and walks onto the sports field while wearing a long black dress. She walks up to two boys and is looking for Ethan Wate (Alden Erenreich). When Ethan responds she kisses him and then tells him to get in the car to go meet her family.
Set in the deep South, the film follows the Duchannes family of witches, called castors, who have their powers claimed for the dark side or the good side when they turn sixteen. Wate falls in love with the youngest daughter, Lena Duchannes (Alice Englert), just weeks before her sixteenth birthday.
The film, also written and directed by Richard LaGravenese, stars Emma Thompson, Jeremy Irons, Thomas Mann, Kyle Gallner, and Viola Davis. Check out the book and go see the fantasy thriller on February 14, 2013.
