Security guard receives citizen donations for helping clean up Atlanta

Darien Long, a security guard at an Atlanta Metro Mall, posted videos of him tasering a violent woman and dealing with abusive drug dealers went viral with over one million views and is set to receive $20,000 or more in donations for his actions in refusing to back down against troublemakers, the Daily Mail reported.

In one of the videos, he is confronted by an abusive woman who has her children with her that refused Long’s orders and ended up being tased when she assaulted Long. After some citizens noticed and commented on that video and other abusive and sometimes violent videos, Reddit set up a fund to collect donations for his cause.

Another video shows Long dealing with drug dealers and loiterers at the mall that were verbally assaulting, and at times, making contact with Long.

The Daily Mail said that Darien Jones told Atlanta news station WSB-TV, “I feel like the taser and the camera are the two most effective tools that I have. Do what you're supposed to do or you get what's coming to you.”

A report on WSB-TV said that residents say crime is keeping people from downtown Atlanta and Long has been at the center of trying to keep troublemakers away from the mall that is located on Peachtree Street in downtown Atlanta.

Reddit launched the online appeal to raise money for Long after seeing the response to his story.

Reddit editor Ryu Kenya told the Daily Mail that they started the campaign because Long is a ‘nice guy’.

“He is a nice guy and that area is very dangerous,' he wrote on the website. “There is a cop station around the block but people still sell drugs around there. He has to wear Kevlar and has his own mug shot book. He was not too proud about tasing the woman and wished it could have been avoided.”

Long said, “Do what you are supposed to do or you know…you get what’s coming to ya.”

“What you do is clean up the neighborhood so other businesses can come in and downtown Atlanta can prosper,” Long added.
