Secure browsing on Black Friday, Cyber Monday and every other day of the year

The Internet an and Technology Examiner was recently able to speak with Cyber Security Expert, Ray Dickenson. He is the Chief Technology Officer of Authentium, a security firm and creator of the SafeCentral secure Internet browser. Not withstanding the time he took out of his schedule to answer our questions, he also offers great tips on his Blog.

THE INTERVIEW

[EXAMINER]What makes theSafe Central browser more secure than the industry standard browsers that are out there?
[DICKENSON]The SafeCentral browser is armored against the techniques online criminals use to infiltrate standard browsers, steal passwords and credit card numbers, and even make regular browsers perform unauthorized transfers out of online bank accounts.

[EXAMINER]Understanding the need for it, why did you decide to develop such a product?
[DICKENSON]We realized that safe shopping and banking online deserves focused protection on the browser. Security suites with antivirus and firewalls are mostly focused on trying to keep the entire PC clean. Keeping a PC clean of malware is a big job that even the best antivirus products can only achieve 70-80% of the time. Protecting sensitive Web sessions is a much smaller task that makes sense.

[EXAMINER]Other browsers are free and possibly offer adequate security, how do you justify charging a fee for your browser?
[DICKENSON]Regular browsers are primarily built for fun - watching videos, playing games, chatting with friends. Writing software for fun things is easy and…well…fun! Writing software that anticipates the criminal or malicious things people may do is harder, requires more time and focus and smart people watching out for the next threat. By the way, we think banks and other sensitive Web site operators should make SafeCentral available for free to their users.

[EXAMINER]How is Safe Central planning on protecting shoppers on Cyber Monday and beyond?
[DICKENSON]Shoppers who are making purchases online will be able to download SafeCentral and be immediately protected at all the online stores as well as their online bank account, Web mail and other sensitive sites.

[EXAMINER]Can shoppers go to any site with this browser or are they restricted to certain “approved” sites ?
[DICKENSON]Shoppers will be protected on any site they visit. SafeCentral's protection does not require the Web site to do anything to protect its users.

[EXAMINER]Would you consider a special offer to Examiner.com readers for the holiday and beyond
[DICKENSON]We are offering a special holiday discount on SafeCentral that will appear on the Web site in the next couple of days. We would be happy to go further and put together an "even specialer" offer for Examiner readers who agree to provide product feedback andput "Examiner" in the subject line of an email to feedback@authentium.com. We will reply to their email with details and terms of the offer.
