The wings of these cherubim extended twenty cubits; the cherubim stood on their feet, their faces toward the Holy Place. (2 Chronicles 3:13)
It was then disclosed to them that the services they were rendering were not meant for themselves and their period of time, but for you. [It is these very] things which have now already been made known plainly to you by those who preached the good news (the Gospel) to you by the [same] Holy Spirit sent from heaven. Into these things [the very] angels long to look! (1 Peter 1:12 AMP)
The prophets of long ago realized that what they were preaching was meant for a future time. The prophecy was for us. But the angels, the cherubim are looking towards the Holy Place in the Temple, a replica of heaven. In the Holy Place is the Holiest of Holies. And in there is the Mercy Seat where God met Moses each day. It's where the veil was torn so we could be welcomed in.
These angels are eternal and will have their answer. The prophets as they lived were giving, preaching with all their heart but not for their families or people. That's a living gift of a life. They were obedient. But one day we'll all be together, the prophets, the angels and us and our questions will be answered and our hearts will be filled with the assurance we didn't give in vain.
