Soldiers from Joint Base Lewis-McChord left last week for an “undisclosed location” in the Middle East.

While officials at JBLM won’t say where the 60-some Soldiers of the 17th Field Artillery Brigade are headed, they did say Iraq or Afghanistan is not their destination. The Soldiers were secreted off post late Thursday night.

These Soldiers will be joining a subordinate unit already deployed to the unnamed country.

Some 300 soldiers from this brigade deployed in December to the same region. At that time they came under the flag of the “1st Battalion, 94th Artillery Regiment” according to a spokesperson from the Army post.

This small group of Soldiers should complete their mission by January of 2015.

It was not mentioned in the news report from the Tacoma News Tribune if family members will know where their Soldier is, if they are sworn to secrecy, or if there will be a social media/media “blackout” during the nine-month deployment.
