Seconds Before Sleep CD Release Party at the Fine Line

Finally, Minnesotans are starting to emerge from the snow-induced hibernation that almost two feet of snow will inevitably cause.  Given that last weekend was lost to the snowstorm and the next two are likely devoted to celebrating the holidays, the time to get in your last shows of the year is right now.

Seconds Before Sleep will be celebrating the release of their debut album, More Daring than Fate, this Saturday at the Fine Line Music Cafe.  Aptly described as a mix of The Goo Goo Dolls and Gin Blossoms, this local group offers a alternative / acoustic / atmospheric sound mixed with thoughtful lyrics that are a perfect match with the cold weather - it's music that makes you want to slow down and watch the time pass, without being dreary, downbeat or ambient.  It's thoughtful pop rock that's upbeat without insisting on bouncing, easy energy.

The band - Michael Shynes, Korey Garvey, Nathanael Raway, Adam Hrtanek, and Jesse Mattila - are relatively new to the Twin Cities Music scene, but are building up steam quickly.  They were recently signed by the indie record label Garden State Records and are starting to receive regular attention from the local music media.  I, for one, am very excited about the show and meeting the band (look for an interview & review this weekend).  Bands like this are why being a musichead in Minnesota is so wonderful.

The show also features special guests Standard Thompson, American Revival, and Sarah Kotner.  Tickets are $5 for 21+, $8 for 18+.
