The Obama success story marches on with unemployment claims rising last week and it is rightfully reported as progress by none other than Fox right wing news:
The number of Americans filing new claims for unemployment benefits rose more than expected last week, but still remained at levels consistent with a steady improvement in labor market conditions.
Sounds about right. Rising unemployment claims are a sign of steady improving labor market conditions. We’re either on our way to recovery, the recovery is here, or the economy stinks and it’s the Republicans fault. Either way Obama is doing a fine job.
The president went on a golf mancation while the First Lady went to Aspin for some skiing. Last month the entire first families were together for a Hawaiian vacation. While Obama was away Chris Mathews of MSNBC broached the idea that Obama ought to be on Mount Rushmore because he’s a great president. Indeed, when was the last time we had a president tell us he would not rest until “folks” get their jobs back? Certainly Mathews does his homework and knows what he’s talking about because he wouldn’t be on TV saying such things.
John Kerry became the new Secretary of State and in his first speech said that the budget impasse between the administration and congress are preventing him from doing a proper job of telling other countries what to do, saying “think about it: It's hard to tell the leadership of any number of countries that they must resolve their economic issues if we don't resolve our own” which is inaccurate because the economy is doing well since just last week unemployment claims were up.
Vice President Joe Biden is doing yeoman work for the administration as the point man on gun control which is now called “gun violence”. In an online discussion on guns the VP gave us a peak into his own gun rules at home telling his wife “I said, 'Jill, if there's ever a problem, just walk out on the balcony here, walk out and put that double-barrel shotgun and fire two blasts outside the house” but before that make sure you shout “say hello to my little friend” (my advice).
Obamacare has raised the cost of medical insurance premiums all across the country which reminds us of the lie the Republicans used to say in that if Obamacare were ever to become law it would do just that. Liars! One of Obama’s selling points was that the law would reduce premium costs by $2500. The difference here is that at least Obama was telling the truth because Republicans lie about everything and they better straighten up their act because nobody wants to vote for them anymore.
Michele Obama has stopped an epidemic that is responsible for the loss of millions of lives. She did this by mobilizing just about every important member of society and also changing the behavior of a whole segment of the population. The office of the first lady issued this announcement on her extraordinary accomplishment:
Mrs. Obama launched Let’s Move! on February 9, 2010 to unite the country around our kids’ health and create real support for families to live healthier lives. Since then parents, business leaders, educators, elected officials, military leaders, chefs, physicians, athletes, childcare providers, community and faith leaders and kids themselves have stepped up to improve the health of our nation’s children.
Thanks to these efforts, families now have access to more information to make healthier decisions for their children. Young people now have more opportunities for physical activity in their communities. Food in schools has been dramatically improved. More Americans now have access to healthy, affordable food closer to home. And the national childhood obesity rate has leveled off, and even declined in some cities and states.
They offered no data to back any of this up but they don’t have to because they’re not like those lying Republicans.
We’re in another budget crisis and the Republicans don’t want to take money from rich people again. If they get their way there will be automatic cuts in Defense and if there’s anything the Republicans like more than anything else it’s a place that has a lot of guns. So the Republicans have a choice of socking it to the rich or having fewer guns. We have no money so make your choice. Enough said. In the meantime President Obama has proposed “investing” in a project to “map” the human mind.
