Familiar foes Tony Ramos of University of Iowa and Devin Carter of Virginia Tech will be featured in yet another out-of-weight-class match at 141 pounds at the 2013 NWCA All-Star Classic Nov. 2, event organizers announced Wednesday.

The Ramos-Carter bout follows on the heels of last week’s announcement of the first out-of-weight-class match-up in the 47-year history of the All Stars, between Ohio State’s Logan Stieber, and Oklahoma’s Kendric Maple at 149 pounds.

Although the NWCA All-Star Classic will be the first official matchup between Ramos and Carter at 141 pounds, the Hawkeye and the Hokie have met on the mat three times in college... with Ramos winning two out of three.

Ramos, from Carol Stream, Ill., is a senior with an 88-12 record who normally wrestles at 133 pounds. He’s a three-time NCAA qualifier and two-time NCAA All-American. During the 2012-13 season, Ramos was a finalist at the 2013 Big Ten conference championships and NCAAs, finishing second at both events.

Carter, a redshirt junior, is coming off a redshirt season where he competed in tournaments. Slated to wrestle at 141 this season, the Hokie from Christianburg, Va. (who’s a native of New Jersey) has competed most of his college career at 133, where he has earned back-to-back ACC (Atlantic Coast Conference) titles in 2011 and 2012, and NCAA All-American honors in 2012.

Ramos vs. Carter is the fifth match to be announced by the National Wrestling Coaches Association for the 2013 All-Stars. In addition to the other out-of-weight class match between Stieber and Maple, other bouts already announced include Minnesota’s Tony Nelson vs. Northwestern’s Mike McMullan at heavyweightOregon State’s Taylor Meeks vs. Nelson’s teammate Scott Schiller at 197 pounds… and Cornell’s Nahshon Garrett vs. Oklahoma’s Jarrod Patterson at 125. All these matches – and others to be announced in the coming days -- will take place Nov. 2 at George Mason University in Fairfax, Va. just outside Washington, D.C.

An annual fixture on college wrestling schedule since 1967, the NWCA All-Star Classic traditionally features match-ups of the two top wrestlers in each weight class. For the past decade, the event has served as the kickoff for the national college wrestling season.

The 2013 All-Star Classic takes place Saturday, Nov. 2 at 7:15 p.m. Eastern at Patriot Center on the GMU campus in suburban Washington, D.C. To purchase tickets to the event, visit the Ticketmaster website. For more information on the All-Star Classic, visit the NWCA website.
