A Creekview High School drama teacher was arrested Wednesday afternoon for allegedly having sex with a 16-year-old student, sometimes at the school.
And his arrest came after another teacher was arrested on similar charges in just over a month.
Mr. Matthew Tamanini, 31, of Canton, was charged with two counts of sexual assault against a person in custody, according to the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office.
“It is believed the relationship with the student has been ongoing for approximately four months, the sheriff’s spokesman Lt. Jay baker said. “Investigators believe that the assaults occurred on the Creekview campus on at least two occasions.”
The investigation began Wednesday morning after Cherokee County School District officers notified detectives following an internal investigation.
The Creekview principal was made aware of the allegations on Tuesday and had alerted the schools police.
Mr. Tamanini, who has taught English and drama at the school since May 2007, remained in custody at the Cherokee Adult Detention Center without bond Wednesday.
He was scheduled to go before a magistrate judge later that day, according to police.
Mr. Tamanini was reassigned to a non-school worksite Wednesday morning pending the outcome of the criminal investigation, Cherokee County Schools' spokeswoman Ms. Barbara Jacoby said.
She said a letter explaining the situation to Creekview High parents would be sent home with students Wednesday.
Mr. Tamanini is the second teach in two months to be arrested for allegedly having sex with a student.
In November Creekview High’s special education teacher Mr. Adam Blake Bearden, 31, of Ball Ground, was charged with four counts of felony sexual assault following an alleged relationship with a 17-year-old student.
