Second Chance gets first dibs

Family Shelter Service and Second Chance Resale Shops are proud to announce that they have been chosen to receive brand new sample items at no cost from this year’s International Housewares Show. The event will take place at McCormick Place in Chicago.

At the close of the event, they will get the goods! They can use everything that they receive for their shelters and for their Second Chance Resale Shops. They are really looking forward to Tuesday, March 18th!

This is the very first time that they have been selected from the great number of qualified charities to receive the free new items and they could not be more ecstatic! The best part is that they are anticipating several truckloads of items!

Besides being a great charitable organization, Family Shelter Service (FSS) is giving the public the opportunity to see how good it feels to give (and in this case receive!). They are seeking as many volunteers as possible to lend a helping hand to assist in the packing and loading of all of the donated items and then again, unpacking them at their shelters and resale locations.

As the time gets closer, there will be more details revealed, but the general plan of action is that the bus they have scheduled will leave DuPage County at 2:00 p.m. for Chicago. Once there, the group will receive further instructions and times of dismissal, etc.

Not only individuals are invited, but businesses, churches and other organizations could make this a day of community service – one that would help those that are in desperate need of help by taking the backdoor approach. The more the merrier and the quicker the work will be accomplished. This is a major donation for the shelters and their resale shops. They would love to have as many individuals from the community participate as possible to see the great service that they provide; having faith that there is an organization right in their midst that cares for those that need their help!

If it is not possible to give physical assistance, and you or your business would still like to participate to some degree, Family Shelter Service is looking for the following items to be donated:

· Palettes/Skids

· Boxes

· Paper to wrap donated items in

· Shrink wrap or bubble wrap for breakable items

If you or your organization would like to volunteer, make sure that you contact FSS by emailing mpwelch@familyshelterservice.net. FSS thanks you in advance!
