The 2013 SEC tournament brackets are nearly ready. Though Kentucky beat Florida, the SEC tournament brackets still have the Gators as the No. 1 overall seed. In the updated SEC standings from Saturday (March 9), a three way tie was revealed for the No. 2 seed. Kentucky, Ole Miss, and Alabama all finished 12-6 in the conference to achieve the double-byes into the SEC quarterfinals next Friday (March 15).
NCAA Tournament Seeding Predictions
The schools seeded No. 5 through No. 10 get a single bye into the second round, leaving the bottom four teams from the regular season to play it out in the first round games. Those games will tip off on Wednesday (March 13), serving almost as a play-in to the rest of the tournament. Having to play the extra game on Wednesday night definitely serves as a disadvantage to those teams.
The top four seeds now have a bit of time to regroup for a run towards the SEC Championship Game and an automatic spot in the 2013 NCAA tournament field. This is the chance for a school like Kentucky to prove the talent is there or for a school from further down in the regular season standings to surprise everyone. The SEC Network will be covering the first two rounds of games in the 2013 SEC tournament brackets, with ESPNU covering the quarterfinals.
As the final tie-breakers are decided by the SEC, the brackets will get filled out.
