Here are my SEC football predictions for Week 9 of the college football season.
Last week I lost almost as many games (5) as I had in the first 7 weeks combined (6.) I shared those picks on my radio show last week but did not get to post them here. So, for the record, here were my predictions from Week 8 (October 19) when I took a big hit. It was upset Saturday in the SEC, so I know I wasn’t alone with the rough week of predictions.
Georgia at Vanderbilt…Georgia (Loss)
South Carolina at Tennessee…South Carolina (Loss)
Florida at Missouri…Florida (Loss)
Auburn at Texas A&M…Texas A&M (Loss)
LSU at Ole Miss…LSU (Loss)
Arkansas at Alabama…Alabama (Won)
Record last week: 1-5
Season total: 60-11
Week 9 is already underway. I also made this pick on my radio show before this post.
Kentucky at Mississippi State…Mississippi State (Won)
Here’s the schedule, and my predictions for this Saturday (Week 9) in the SEC. Every SEC game this week is being played in the Central Time Zone. All the Eastern Time Zone teams are either off or on the road this week.
SATURDAY, OCT. 26
Vanderbilt (4-3, 1-3 SEC) at #16 Texas A&M (5-2, 2-2 SEC)
12:21 a.m. ET • SEC TV
College Station, Texas • Kyle Field (83,002)
Series: First Meeting
VegasInsider.com Line: Texas A&M -17
Vinny’s Vibe: Texas A&M’s offense will move up and down the field on a leaky Vandy defense. All indications are that Johnny Manziel will play. If he plays, he’ll play well. Vandy will be able to run the football on that bad and undisciplined Texas A&M defense. I expect QB Patton Robinette to play well in his first collegiate start for the Commodores.
Texas A&M 45 Vanderbilt 31
Tennessee (4-3, 1-2 SEC) at #1 Alabama (7-0, 4-0 SEC)
3:30 p.m. ET • CBS
Tuscaloosa, Ala. • Bryant-Denny Stadium (101,821)
Series: UA leads, 50-38-7
Last: UA, 44-13 (2012 in Knoxville)
VegasInsider.com Line: Alabama -28
Vinny’s Vibe: I watched the entire Alabama destruction of Arkansas last week 52-0. You have to really try hard to not be influenced strongly by Bama’s performance. It was a complete butt-whooping in all phases. The Crimson Tide will be without Vinnie Sunseri (knee – out for the year) and LaMichael Fanning (suspension). Tennessee is playing better and is more balanced than any recent team Alabama has crushed recently. Butch Jones has the Volunteers playing so hard, physical, confident and fundamentally sound. The Vols upset South Carolina last week one game after nearly beating Georgia. Alabama is too good and too talented for Tennessee to pull off another upset, however I think it will be closer than where the line is.
Alabama 34 Tennessee 10
Furman (3-4) at #13 LSU (6-2, 3-2 SEC)
7 p.m. ET • PPV
Baton Rouge, La. • Tiger Stadium (92,400)
Series: First Meeting
VegasInsider.com Line: LSU -47
Vinny’s Vibe: None Needed
LSU 51 Furman 3
#21 South Carolina (5-2, 3-2 SEC) at #5 Missouri (7-0, 3-0 SEC)
7 p.m. ET • ESPN2
Series: MIZ leads, 2-1
Last: SC, 31-10 (2012 in Columbia, S.C.)
Columbia, Mo. • Memorial Stadium - Faurot Field (67,124)
VegasInsider.com Line: Missouri -2 ½
Vinny’s Vibe: I still hear many people doubt Missouri while not letting go of their previous opinions about teams. Missouri is really good. I’m on board after seeing backup QB Maty Mauk and the Missouri Tigers dismantle one of the best defenses in the country. Jadeveon Clowney had a great game last week in the loss to Tennessee. Odds are against him putting together two good games in a row. Plus, South Carolina won’t have Connor Shaw at QB.
Missouri 38 South Carolina 24
Florida Atlantic (2-5) at #11 Auburn (6-1, 3-1 SEC)
7:30 p.m. ET • FSN
Auburn, Ala. • Jordan-Hare Stadium (87,451)
Series: AU leads, 1-0
VegasInsider.com Line: Auburn -24
Vinny’s Vibe: The line has dropped from 28 to 24. I don’t get that. That’s fine. The Owls of FAU have been dreadful at times this season. Auburn is rolling offensively with QB Nick Marshall excelling. The running game is clicking. The defensive line is really developing with the 5-star freshmen mixed-in with some vets. Auburn wins this easily.
Auburn 55 Florida Atlantic 7
Idaho (1-6) at Ole Miss (4-3, 2-3 SEC)
7:30 p.m. ET • CSS
Oxford, Miss. • Vaught-Hemingway Stadium (60,580)
Series: First Meeting
VegasInsider.com Line: Ole Miss -40 ½
Vinny’s Vibe: This is another SEC mismatch this week. Ole Miss is feeling good about itself coming of the big upset of LSU last week. This is a "continue to feel good via the Vandals" game. Idaho is bad and doesn’t bring any threats to the table to make the Rebels at least a little uncomfortable.
Ole Miss 49 Idaho 0
OPEN: Arkansas (3-5, 0-4 SEC); Florida (4-3, 3-2 SEC); Georgia (4-3, 3-2 SEC)
