Here are my SEC football predictions for Week 7 of the college football season.
Record last week: 6-1
Season total: 53-5
All times are Eastern.
Saturday, October 12
Missouri (5-0, 1-0 SEC) at Georgia (4-1, 3-0 SEC)
Series: UGA leads, 2-0
Noon ET • ESPN
Last: UGA, 41-20 (2012 at Columbia)
Athens, Ga. • Sanford Stadium (92,746)
VegasInsider.com Line: Georgia -7
Vinny’s Vibe: Missouri has been able to run the ball better than most expected. What the Tigers are doing is meaningful. The power run game, the designed runs for James Franklin and the versatility of the backs are great indicators that Missouri is truly improved. Georgia is clearly beat-up. Can the Bulldogs, with no Gurley or Marshall and no Mitchell, Scott-Wesley and Bennett still create big plays? I think Aaron Murray and Georgia find a way to win but the country will still come out impressed by Missouri.
Georgia 37 Missouri 35
South Carolina (4-1, 2-1 SEC) at Arkansas (3-3, 0-2 SEC)
Series: ARK leads, 13-8
11:21 a.m. CT • SEC TV
Last: SC, 38-20 (2012 at Columbia)
Fayetteville, Ark. • Reynolds Razorback Stadium (72,000)
VegasInsider.com Line: South Carolina -6
Vinny’s Vibe: Jadeveon Clowney Watch has been confusing and mind-numbing. It’s time for him to have a massive game. You also can’t predict that will happen because we’ve been waiting so long for it. Something isn’t right with SC right now. Arkansas has had its moments but has deficiencies as well. I think the Gamecocks will turn Arkansas over one extra time and seal the win. Connor Shaw playing the whole game is important because I think he’ll have success against the Razorbacks defense.
South Carolina 31 Arkansas 28
Western Carolina (1-5) at Auburn (4-1, 2-1 SEC)
Series: AU leads, 2-0
1 p.m. CT • PPV
Auburn, Ala. • Jordan-Hare Stadium (87,451)
VegasInsider.com Line: Auburn -41
Vinny’s Vibe: None Needed
Auburn 48 Western Carolina 10
Florida (4-1, 3-0 SEC) at LSU (5-1, 2-1 SEC)
Series: UF leads, 31-25-3
2:30 p.m. CT • CBS
Last: UF, 14-6 (2012 in Gainesville)
Baton Rouge, La. • Tiger Stadium (92,400)
VegasInsider.com Line: LSU -7 ½
Vinny’s Vibe: There are so many appealing aspects of this game. Can Florida’s great defensive line disrupt the passing rhythm of Zach Mettenberger and lead to missed throws and turnovers? Can LSU run the ball well enough against that Gators front seven? Will Tyler Murphy take another step against a great team? LSU's defense will help the offense today with the best performance of the season. Home field advantage is in play, and might be the difference in this one.
LSU 24 Florida 20
Alabama (5-0, 2-0 SEC) at Kentucky (1-4, 0-2 SEC)
Series: UA leads, 35-2-1
7 p.m. ET • ESPN2
Last: UA, 38-20 (2009 in Lexington)
Lexington, Ky. • Commonwealth Stadium (67,942)
VegasInsider.com Line: Alabama -27
Vinny’s Vibe: This is a test of Alabama’s maturity. Will the Tide have a business-like approach on the road? Will Bama put Kentucky away early as it should or allow UK to hang around and play spirited football as it’s shown the ability to do this season? I expect Alabama to work on the run game and do it well. That will open it some big plays in the passing game as well.
Alabama 41 Kentucky 13
Bowling Green (5-1) at Mississippi State (2-3, 0-2 SEC)
Series: First Meeting
6:30 p.m. CT • FSN
Starkville, Miss. • Davis Wade Stadium at Scott Field (55,082)
VegasInsider.com Line: Mississippi State -11
Vinny’s Vibe: Bowling Green is a good team that has had a nice start. Mississippi State has handled non-conference opponents with maturity. I have questions about MSU but the Bulldogs will wear down BG over four quarters.
Mississippi State 42 Bowling Green 28
Texas A&M (4-1, 1-1 SEC) at Ole Miss (3-2, 1-2 SEC)
Series: TAMU leads, 5-0
7:30 p.m. CT • ESPN
Last: TAMU, 30-27 (2012 at Oxford)
Oxford, Miss. • Vaught-Hemingway Stadium (60,580)
VegasInsider.com Line: Texas A&M -6 ½
Vinny’s Vibe: If Ole Miss wants to salvage its season, it has to rise up and win a game versus a quality opponent. Injuries and quarterback play have hurt the Rebels. Texas A&M’s offense is just too good. Johnny Manziel will have another big day.
Texas A&M 45 Ole Miss 24
OPEN: Tennessee (3-3, 0-2 SEC); Vanderbilt (3-3, 0-3 SEC)
