SeaWolves Release 2013 Premier Development League Schedule

EDMONDS, WA. — A July 4th home matchup with defending division champion Sounders FC U-23 highlights the North Sound SeaWolves’ 14-match 2013 schedule.

The SeaWolves will host seven matches at Edmonds Stadium, beginning with the home opener against the Portland Timbers U-23 on Saturday, May 18 at 4 p.m., which will be part of the “Move 60 Family Fitness Day” celebration.

“We’re excited to be back in Edmonds and build on the support we received last year,” SeaWolves’ owner/coach Alex Silva said. “We’ve got some great partnerships with the city this year and fans are going to have a great time at our games.”

The SeaWolves are a member of the 7-team Northwest Division of the Premier Development League, the highest level of amateur soccer in the United States. The division features three Major League Soccer developmental clubs – the Sounders, Timbers and Vancouver Whitecaps – as well as the Kitsap Pumas, Washington Crossfire and Victoria Highlanders. The SeaWolves finished 4-8-4 in 2012.

“The Northwest Division is the toughest division in the PDL,” Silva said. “Every game we play is against a strong team but we expect to win every game, and our fans will see a great game every time they come out.”

The home opener against the Timbers is part of the wide-ranging “Move 60” initiative designed to engage kids in physical activity for 60 minutes a day. The SeaWolves will hold clinics as part of “Family Fitness Day” during the day and play Portland that afternoon.

“The city asked us to be a part of it and we are excited to do that,” SeaWolves General Manager Jim Underhill said. “It’s a great way to reach out to the community and help educate kids about the importance of fitness. What’s neat is later in the season we’re part of Portland’s ‘Fitness Day’ as well.”

The July 4th match with the Sounders is part of the City of Edmonds’ day-long Independence Day celebration and will be North Sound’s lone home match against the team that reached the PDL semifinals in 2012.

“Everyone knows Edmonds does a great job celebrating the Fourth of July,” Underhill said. “But between the parade in the morning and the fireworks at night, there was a gap in the afternoon and so we are excited to step in and give people another fun activity to enjoy that day. It’s going to be a great event.”

After the home opener, the SeaWolves don’t return home again until meeting the Whitecaps at 7:30 p.m. Friday, June 7. In all, North Sound plays four of its seven home matches at 7:30 on a Friday night. The final match of the season will be at home at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 17 against Vancouver.

“We’re working hard to put together a great team this season,” Silva said. “We’re going to have guys who are great players and also great with the community, which is very important to us. We’re excited for the season to get started.”
