I had to hear somebody else say it so I had some affirmation on my side: some FOX football analysts also agree that the Seattle Seahawks look good enough to go to Super Bowl XLVIII on February 2, 2014. I think they'll go and win. Even after considering Russell Wilson's strong showing as a rookie last year, I believe that their strong defense is what will propel them forward this season.
Wilson was, perhaps, the biggest surprise in the NFL if you go by what fans have been saying. He shouldn't have been a surprise, though, because his father played in the NFL and his football intellect is keen. Their strongest competition might again be in their own division: I'm referring to the San Francisco 49ers who might have won the Super Bowl in 2013. Talent and play calling interface to make championships happen.
To show you how Russell Wilson thinks he opted to use his last year of college eligibility after having graduated NC State in five years (including a red shirt year.) He transferred to Wisconsin and quarterbacked the Badgers to a Rose Bowl while competing as a graduate student. You don't hear those stories every day.
People should take note that these Seattle Seahawks finished only half a game behind the 49ers in the final regular season standings in 2012-13. The reason why Seattle surprised everyone is, perhaps, because rookie quarterbacks don't go to Super Bowls: not as starters. This is his second year though. In a few years running back Marshawn Lynch won't be in his prime anymore.
Maybe I'm just being a homer because Russell Wilson went to high school in Richmond, Virginia where my brother taught, but I think the time is right.
This is the year.
