Seattle Seahawks vs Baltimore Ravens
When: Sunday, Jan. 6, 4:30 p.m.
Where: FedEx Field
TV: Fox
Both teams come into the playoffs as one of the hottest teams. The Seattle Seahawks have won five in a row, including a win over San Francisco. The Washington Redskins have won seven in a row to win the NFC East.
The battle of rookie quarterbacks is sure to be a great one. Russell Wilson started the season slow for Seattle, but he has been on a roll lately. Wilson has thrown for 26 touchdowns and 10 interceptions this season. Russell’s intangibles have been what set him apart, however. He controls the offensive game plan masterfully, and his leadership has elevated the whole Seahawks organization.
Robert Griffin III has been as efficient as any quarterback in the league this season. Griffin has had dominating moments during the season, and his running ability helps break down opponents defenses. R.G III’s ability to run will be very important against the vaunted Seahawks’ defense.
The team that can establish the running game will take control of the game. Marshawn Lynch averaged five yards per carry, and had over 1500 yards rushing.
Alfred Morris must match the output by Lynch and the Seahawks’ offense. He’s capable of making big plays, and his running attempts will help keep Robert Griffin III healthy. Morris led the team with 13 touchdowns.
The Redskins defense is great against the run, but they are vulnerable through the air. While they have played better as of late, The Redskins will have their toughest test of the season.
Seattle is a dominant defense in all aspects. It all starts with their defensive line, but they have the biggest group of defensive backs, and they are prepared to use Brandon Browner on Sunday. The physical nature of the corners can be imposing for opponents.
The Verdict
The quarterbacks are both in their first playoff games as rookies. The winner of this game will be one win away from a conference championship game. We will know early how healthy Robert Griffin III is. In the end, dominant defense will rule the day. Even though the quarterbacks have been great with the ball, there may be some turnovers forced. Seattle will steal a playoff victory on the road.
