Seattle Seahawks to release Sidney Rice

The Seattle Seahawks dominated the NFL during the 2013-14 season. Much of their success was no thanks to an injured Sidney Rice. It makes sense then that ESPN is reporting on Feb. 21 that the Superbowl champions are looking to unload Rice before the upcoming season.

Rice spent much of the season injured. The wide receiver suffered a torn ACL in October and sat out eight games, the playoffs and the Superbowl due to the injury.

Rice signed a 5-year contract with the Seahawks in 2011 and is due $17.5 million in the next two seasons. Many of Seattle's rising stars are also up for contract negotiation in the next to seasons as well. The Seawks needs to make room in their budgets for the likes of Golden Tate, Richard Sherman, Doug Baldwin, Michael Bennett, Steven Haushka and many others.

It will be interesting to see who Seattle keeps and who they choose to let go as many of their rookies will be renegotiating and asking for much bigger (deservedly) payouts for upcoming seasons.

The Seattle Seahawks wide receiver pool is loaded with talent. It looks like the first to go is Sidney Rice simply because they don't need him, as seen during the Superbowl.
