August 25, 2010 - An 18-year-old high school student – Tyler Wolfegang Savage – said he killed, then raped developmentally disabled teen, Kimberly “Kimmie” Daily, then played video games to forget.
Kimmie, 16, went missing Aug. 17 after leaving her Puyallup home to go to a friend's house. She never made it.
After Kimmie went missing investigators spoke with Savage who, after being contacted several times by police, led detectives to a large thicket of blackberry bushes and brambles not far from his home.
According to Pierce County Superior Court charging papers, Kimmie’s body was found more than 100 feet deep in the ticket. Her bicycle was on top of her, she was naked.
Savage admits to killing, then raping Kimmie
According to charging papers Savage told detectives he tried to convince Kimmie to go with him to the brushy area near his house.
She protested, knowing she was not supposed to cross that street.
Savage admitted to detectives that Kimmie, at some point, agreed to cross the street and went with him more than 50 feet into the brushy area of a vacant lot approximately two blocks from Savage’s house and out of sight of the roadway.
Within 15-20 minutes, Savage said Kimmie wanted to leave.
When she got up he said he grabbed her from behind around the neck and choked her until she was dead.
He said he then stripped her of her clothes to make it look like “something else,” “like she was raped.”
The charging papers said Savage eventually admitted to sexually assaulting Kimmie - touching her breasts and penetrating her after she had died.
He then told detectives he carried Kimmie’s body toward the brambles and dumped her where she was found, then threw her bicycle on top of her.
Savage said he then went home and by 4 p.m. on Aug. 17, he was at a neighbor’s house playing the “Dungeons and Dragons” Online video game in an effort to “forget" what he'd done.
He told detectives he’d known Kimmie for more than two years.
Savage pleads “not guilty” – could receive death penalty
Savage did not tell detectives his motive for the crime.
“He did not say why,” Pierce County Prosecutor Mark Lindquist said after he charged Savage with aggravated first-degree murder, the state’s highest crime.
Lindquist told Savage he may seek the death penalty. The prosecutor has 30 days to make that decision though that deadline is likely to be extended.
Life in prison without the possibility of release is the only other punishment available for someone convicted of aggravated first-degree murder.
Superior Court Commissioner Patrick Oishi entered a plea of not guilty on Savage’s behalf and ordered him jailed without bond, which is routine for defendants charged with aggravated murder.
Savage’s attorney, Jay Berneburg, did not oppose the no-bail hold but reserved the right to later argue the issue.
Kimmie’s relatives were too upset to attend the arraignment.
Savages parents have not been able to see their son since his arrest. They sat in the back of the courtroom, trying to get a glimpse of their son.
Michael Von Gnatensky, the Savage family spokesman, said the couple plan to make a public statement in the future, but first need to gather more details.
“It’s a tragic, sad day not just for the two families but also for the community,” Von Gnatensky said. “The family is very upset and in shock. They’re not doing well.”
A spokeswoman for the Puyallup School District said Savage is enrolled as a senior at Emerald Ridge High School.
He is being held without bail in the Pierce County Jail.

Here's this for motive: He's an effing freak. Now prosecute him and nail the bastard for life.
Life without Parole.
He needs the reverse done to him, a savage raping then death.
Not sure why video games are mentioned in the headline. Would they have mentioned it if he had gone to his bedroom and read a book to forget?
I feel bad for the dad having to deal with this all by himself. The guy who did this terrible crime is a nutcase!
Video games have nothing to do with this.
There are millions if not billions of gamers in the world! You dont see all of them doing this. You media people just put games in the titles because it makes for a good headline and people reading it when in reality it has no connection what so ever.
I'm the author of the article and I didn't include "video games" in the title to get readership. I included it because that's what police reported he did. Lured Kimmie to the woods, killed her, raped her, and then went home to play video games to forget what he'd done.
I was not trying to point out video games had anything to do with what he did. I have no idea what prompted him to make the decisions he said he made.
ps - here's what I wrote about video games:
The charging papers said Savage eventually admitted to sexually assaulting Kimmie - touching her breasts and penetrating her after she had died.
He then told detectives he carried Kimmie’s body toward the brambles and dumped her where she was found, then threw her bicycle on top of her.
Savage said he then went home and by 4 p.m. on Aug. 17, he was at a neighbor’s house playing the “Dungeons and Dragons” Online video game in an effort to “forget" what he'd done.
Death or Life Without Parole.
Luring a 16 year old who is disabled, killing her, raping the corpse and tosses the body and and covered a bicycle over her. And 2 blocks from where he lived?!?
SICK/DISGUSTING - Don't need our tax money to keep this (I get a loss for words except - psychotic-sicko!) alive. Wish I didn't read this news..
Transcript of Savage and Kimmie in the woods:
Kimmie: I don't like it here. It's dark. I'm scared.
Savage: YOU'RE scared? I have to walk home ALONE.
I cant see how my little brother, the one i talked on the phone with when we were younger, could do something like this
And I agree about the video games, i understand he played A video game to forget but say it once not in every headline and story...
I feel torn by this situation. I have Special needs family members and work with others as well, so part of me says he deserves the worse for being able to do something like this. But at the same time i know some of his brothers and how shocked they are by the situation, neither can believe he could do this. And by neighbor testimonies, his family, and even his own confession; i dont see him being the guilty one...i feel hes hiding something...or someone
i would still like to know what my brother was thinking and how he could do something like this i have two girls myself and thats just not right i just urge people dont blame all of us for what he did
