January 27, 2010 - President Obama spoke to our nation this evening in his State of the Union Address, saying jobs must be our No. 1 focus and that the place to start is with small businesses, entrepreneurs, those who have a dream.

Obama said, “One year ago, I took office amid two wars, an economy rocked by a severe recession, a financial system on the verge of collapse, and a government deeply in debt."
He continued, “Experts from across the political spectrum warned that if we did not act, we might face a second depression. So we acted -– immediately and aggressively. And one year later, the worst of the storm has passed.”
Obama believes that putting Americans to work today will build the infrastructure of tomorrow.
He said if a worker has a dream and desire to be his or her own boss they should have the support needed to make their dreams come true. Our country has always been built to compete, he said.
Obama’s proposal this evening would help many struggling small businesses in Seattle, a city with incredible energy and talent.
There’s no reason Europe or China should have the fastest trains, he said, or the new factories that manufacture clean energy products. We can do that right here in America, right here in Seattle.
Obama said, "People are out of work. They're hurting. They need our help. And I want a jobs bill on my desk without delay."
Small business owners still find it difficult to find loans during these rough times. Obama proposed we take $30 billion of the money Wall Street banks have repaid and use it to help community banks give small businesses the credit they need to stay afloat.
Obama also proposed a new small business tax credit. He added, “While we're at it, let's also eliminate all capital gains taxes on small business investment, and provide a tax incentive for all large businesses and all small businesses to invest in new plants and equipment.“ That gained Obama an applause.
