Seattle Mariners trade rumors have the New York Mets interested in Nick Franklin. Mariners rumors about Franklin are nothing new, but the Mets are scouting him to see what he can do during Spring Training 2014. According to a report from Wednesday night (Feb. 26), the team likes the pop in his bat but wants to make sure that he is good enough on defense to come play shortstop for them.
It has been previously reported that a pitching prospect like Rafael Montero would be what the M's would want in return, but it doesn't appear that any official offers have been made. It had long been thought that Franklin would be a better fit at second base for the Tampa Bay Rays, so that is another team that might be sending a scout to watch him play in Peoria.
These Seattle Mariners trade rumors could actually take a short while to develop into something significant, especially with neither team seemingly in a hurry to pull the trigger. On Thursday (Feb. 27), Brad Miller got the start at shortstop for the M's and Chris Taylor finished off the game for him. This makes it likely that it will be Nick Franklin taking the field against the San Diego Padres on Friday (Feb. 28) and that the New York Mets will be paying close attention to how it goes.
